324 Generator Failure, Investigation & Return to Service

Abstract:

The 324 model generator was launched in the mid 1980’s and applied to both steam and gas turbine applications.  This presentation will share and discuss an in-service failure of a 324 generator.  Findings from the failure investigation will be shared and discussed.  Design and Repair challenges will be explored including repair implementation.  Corollary discoveries regarding the 324 model design and manufacturing will be identified and recommendations reviewed.
